How to Get a Building Contractors
License in Alabama
Download the candidate information bulletin from
PSI (psiexams.com), the testing agency for your
state.

Register online with PSI, but wait until you have
all your reference books and study material
before you schedule a test date.

Purchase the approved reference books for
your exam. You can purchase them at the
bottom of this page or use the lists to shop
around on other sites. Which list you use will
depend on the license classification you are
seeking. This is explained further in the
candidate bulletin from PSI.
Whether you want to start your own
business or advance your career,
getting your contractors license will
open a world of possibilities. A
license allows you to bid work under
your own company name or act as a
qualifier for another company.

Consider taking an exam preparation seminar.
Contractor state licensing tests are extremely
difficult and typically have a 70 percent fail rate.
In other words, 7 out of 10 people fail the first
time they take it. Otherwise, check our site for
tips and give yourself at least a month to
prepare.

Schedule and take your exam. Pay close
attention to the instructions and rules in your
candidate information bulletin. Testing agencies
are often very strict.
